Texas Sheet Cake

1cup water
½ cup shortening
1 stick butter
4 Tbsp. cocoa
2 eggs
½ cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour


1 stick butter
6 Tbsp. milk
4 Tbsp. cocoa
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Bring to a boil in a saucepan the shortening, butter, water and cocoa.  Let cool.  Combine sugar and flour.  Combine the two mixtures thoroughly, then add the rest of the ingredients.  Bake n a greased 9 x 13 pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Frosting:  Bring to a boil the first 3 ingredients.  Add vanilla and sugar.  Beat right in saucepan until sugar lumps are gone.  Spread over hot cake.
